Since purchasing a 1920 farmhouse on Johns Island John fell in love with the multitude of Camellia flowers on the property. He was told that the original owner was a friend of the naturalist on Middleton and that many of these Camellias are grafts from the historic Camellias at Middleton. This 5x7” painting is a study for a larger 43x63” painting of a large pile of camellias from Johns property on Johns Island.
