Gray Bay #54842

There is one left in this edition.

John’s friend, and fellow artist, JB Boyd went out on his john boat with a 12' ladder attached to a plywood base in the hopes that they could get a better vantage point of the wide expanse of marsh in Gray Bay. It was a dodgy setup, and they only tried it this one time, and survived without toppling over their our cameras. John returned with this beautiful image.

the art

There are times when standing in hip-waders creating the abstract landscape series that John is inspired to capture the moment in all its detail to showcase the beauty of the marsh, water and sky. These wide format panoramas, when produced large enough to encompass your peripheral vision, allow you to feel as if you are standing there at the scene. They are composed of multiple photographs stitched together to create an image file that can be produced up to sixteen feet across and more.

The Process

All photographs on canvas are available in Editions of 5, in standard sizes - once five are sold, regardless of size, the edition is closed. The artwork is individually produced by John in a custom state-of-the-art digital studio in a renovated barn-building on Johns Island, SC. Meticulous attention to detail in every step of the process (particularly with regards to color) is the hallmark of Johnʼs artwork.

After the artwork is color-proofed and printed on canvas, each piece is hand-coated with multiple coats of a UV protectant layer, stretched over custom designed and locally milled stretcher bars, and then framed with a canvas floater frame in dark walnut, or in painted black or white with seamless corners. The full process takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks from initial deposit to complete, depending on the current workload and exhibition schedule.
