celebrating the diversity of the share experience

Call to Adventure is a one-hour conversation hosted by Alex Opoulos and John Duckworth, interspersed with musical selections from each guest. The underlying ethos of the show is inspired by Joseph Campbell’s idea of the Monomyth or the Hero’s Journey. Each of us on our personal journey encounters moments where we are drawn into stepping out of our comfort zones to explore the unknown. If heeded, the moment of departure is prefaced by what Joseph Campbell refers to as the Call to Adventure - a moment that either illuminates a new path, forces a challenging decision, inspires courage over fear, or kindles fresh discipline - something that ultimately gives new purpose, meaning, and direction to our lives. From this vantage point Alex and John engage each guest in a conversation about those moments in their lives that in hindsight proved pivotal, providing growth and transformation along the journey.

"The road that is distinctly your own has never been traversed, celebrate the path that is your call to adventure."

"There's a beautiful simplicity to getting around on a quiet, efficient, self-powered machine balanced on two wheels.  The freedom and independence I felt as a child remain to this day - an expression of pure joy.  I never regret a day out on my bike - even that desolate day in the Pyrenees that nearly broke me ended with a huge smile on my face."

 MEDITATION

"The practices of yoga and meditation have been transformative for me.  Simple self-awareness, brought on by conscious movement and intentional stillness, continues to provide insight and evolution.  I am so thankful for all of my teachers."

"Food is fuel, it’s worth understanding how your engine runs.  It took me a long time to really figure that out.  I'm now the anomaly at restaurants - vegan, gluten free, and alcohol free.  Luckily, I love to cook, and I live and work at home.  I focus on a nutrient-dense plant-based diet to enable optimal health and wellness for myself, and for the benefit of the larger ecosystem.  I can thank my good friend Timmy Pakron, aka Mississippi Vegan, for instilling an excitement in eating plants - and for people like Brendan BrazierRich Roll and Matt Frazier for providing a roadmap for plant-based athletes."

"Inspired by those who are not satisfied to watch from the sidelines, the incredible people who give back to the world in so many meaningful ways, I am compelled to be of service to my community and the larger ecosystem that sustains me."
